How to Apply High Viscosity Composition to High Bulk Sheets |
abstract |
A method of topically applying an additive composition to a planar substrate, such as a tissue web, is described. In one embodiment, the method is designed to apply a relatively high viscosity composition to the base sheet in a manner that prevents the additive composition from penetrating into the sheet at high speed. An additive composition having a relatively high viscosity can be applied to the base sheet using an offset gravure printing process in one embodiment. The applicator roll includes a raised element of a pattern. The lift element defines a surface having one or more dimensions that are less than 500 micrometers. The lift elements are also spaced close to each other to prevent fiber buildup on the roll during relatively high speed machining. |
