abstract Silicon nitride powder for higher brightness silicon nitride phosphors and Sr using the same, which can be used in fluorescent display tubes (VFD), field emission displays (FED), plasma display panels (PDP), cathode ray tubes (CRT), light emitting diodes (LEDs), etc. Provided are 3 Al 3 Si 13 O 2 N 21 -based phosphors, β-sialon phosphors, and methods for their preparation. The present invention is a crystalline silicon nitride powder which is used as a raw material for producing a silicon nitride phosphor containing an elemental silicon, a nitrogen element and an oxygen element, having an average particle diameter of 1.0 to 12 µm and an oxygen content of 0.2 to 0.9 weight percent.
