abstract | A method and apparatus for removing non-aromatic impurities from a non-nitrated aromatic reactant in a nitration manufacturing process, wherein the aromatic reactant is nitrated (100) using an excess molar aromatic reactant to produce a nitrated aromatic product. The non-nitrated aromatic reactant is recovered (102) and recycled (104) from the resulting nitrated aromatic product and used in the nitration manufacturing process. Some of the excess non-nitrated aromatic reactant removed is bypassed (106) and nitrated (108). The nitrated stream can be further processed, such as by separating the used acid (110) or by separating the non-aromatic impurities (116). These streams are transported to the appropriate locations in the nitration production train (114, 118). |
