abstract The present invention relates to a method for producing acrolein from glycerol or glycerin, wherein the dehydration of glycerol or glycerin is carried out in the presence of a catalyst based on zirconium oxide, and the active phase is present at least as the following component. : a) silicon oxide, zirconium oxide and at least one metal M oxide, the metal being selected from tungsten, cerium, manganese, niobium, tantalum, vanadium and titanium; And b) titanium oxide, zirconium oxide and at least one metal M oxide, the metal being selected from tungsten, cerium, manganese, niobium, tantalum, vanadium and silicon. The method of the invention can be used to prepare 3- (methylthio) propionic aldehyde (MMP), 2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutyronitrile (HMTBN), methionine and analogs thereof.
