abstract The present invention provides a rapamycin comprising (a) an inactivated rapY gene, (b) an inactivated rapS gene, or (c) an inactivated rapY gene and an inactivated rapS gene. It relates to a microbial strain having a production capacity. The strains of the invention exhibit markedly increased rapamycin production compared to conventional rapamycin producing strains. The method for producing rapamycin using the strain of the present invention can be very useful for industrial mass production of rapamycin.
