An object of this invention is to provide the novel compound which has an absorption maximum in wavelength 400-520 nm, and can form a polarizing film with a high dichroic ratio, the polarizing film containing this novel compound, etc. The compound represented by Formula (1), the composition containing this compound and a liquid crystalline compound, the polarizing film formed from this composition, etc. are provided. [In Formula (1), Y is group represented by Formula (Y1) or Formula (Y2). R 1 is a group represented by any one of formulas (R 1 -1) to (R 1 -3).
