titleOfInvention Turbocharger
abstract The turbocharger has an annular bypass passage that allows exhaust gas to bypass the turbine wheel. An annular bypass valve is disposed in the bypass passage. The bypass valve includes a stationary annular valve seat and a rotatable annular valve member disposed coaxially with the valve seat. The valve member is disposed relative to the valve seat and is rotatable about an axis to selectively change the degree of alignment between the valve seat and respective orifices of the valve member. The turbine has a nozzle with a vane assembly. In one embodiment, the vanes have only fixed vanes. In another embodiment, the vane assembly has both fixed vanes and variable vanes, wherein the vanes are part of a rotor that rotates with the rotary valve member.
