The present invention relates to niobium oxide useful for the anode of a secondary lithium ion battery. Such niobium oxide has the formula (Li x M 1 - y Nb y Nb 2 O 7 ), where 0 ≦ x ≦ 3, 0 ≦ y ≦ 1 and M represents Ti or Zr. Niobium oxide may be present in the form of particles, which may be carbon coated. The present invention also relates to an electrode composition containing at least one niobium oxide of the formula Li x M 1 -y Nb y Nb 2 O 7 . The invention also relates to electrodes, such as anodes, and batteries containing at least one niobium oxide of the formula Li x M 1 - y Nb y Nb 2 O 7 . The present invention also relates to a method of forming the above. |
