abstract |
The present invention relates to systems and methods for tissue ablation. The system includes a needle having deployable filaments that can form asymmetrical offset lesions in a target volume that can include a target nerve. Ablation of at least a portion of the target nerve may inhibit the nerve's ability to deliver a signal, such as a pain signal, to the central nervous system. Offset lesions can facilitate surgery by directing energy away from the branching structure and towards the target nerve. Exemplary anatomical structures include lumbar, thoracic and cervical medial branch nerves and rami and sacroiliac joints. |
