titleOfInvention Variable focal length micro lens, micro lens array including the same, 3D display including the same and method of operation thereof
abstract Disclosed are a variable focal length micro lens, a micro lens array including the same, a 3D display including the same, and a method of operating the same. The microlens according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a plurality of electrodes, an electro-wetting liquid layer spaced from the plurality of electrodes and whose focal length is adjusted by a voltage applied to the plurality of electrodes, An electrode is provided around the electro-wetting liquid. An insulating layer and a hydrophobic film may be sequentially provided between the plurality of electrodes and the electro-wetting liquid layer. An upper electrode and a glass substrate may be sequentially provided on the electrowetting liquid layer and the plurality of electrodes, and a part of the electrowetting liquid layer may extend between the upper electrode and the hydrophobic layer. The electrowetting liquid layer may include a first nonpolar material, a second polar material, and an electrolyte included in at least one of the first and second materials.
