abstract Disclosed are a device for reading a security medium using a phosphor and a fluorescent material, and a method thereof. The security medium reading apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention irradiates UV light to a security element and receives reflected light or transmitted light from the security element by using characteristics of phosphors and fluorescent materials having different luminescence properties over time. Then, it is determined whether the security medium is forged by changing the color of reflected light or transmitted light.
