abstract |
A dual orientation connector is provided having a connector tab having first and second major opposite sides and a plurality of electrical contacts carried by the connector tab. The plurality of contacts include a set of first outer contacts formed on the first major side and a set of second outer contacts formed on the second major side. Each individual contact in the plurality of first contacts is electrically connected to a corresponding contact of the plurality of second contacts in the tab or body. In some embodiments the contacts of the plurality of first and second contacts directly opposite each other are connected to each other. In some other embodiments, the contacts of the plurality of first and second contacts in a diagonal relationship with each other are connected to each other. The plurality of first contacts may be symmetrically spaced apart from the plurality of second contacts and the connector tabs may be formed to have 180 degree symmetry so that they can be inserted and operatively connected to a receptacle connector corresponding to one of the two insertion orientations. |
