abstract |
The present invention relates to (A) linear, branched or cyclic, ethylene-based, which may bear oxygen or nitrogen functional substituents that cannot react with amines that produce amides or imides or that cannot react with alcohols that produce esters. Ethylenically unsaturated C 3 -C 12 -mono- or dicarboxylic acids or acid derivatives that cannot react with unsaturated C 2 -C 100 hydrocarbons and with amines that produce amides or imides or with alcohols that produce esters Copolymerizing to produce a copolymer having a number average molecular weight of 500 to 20,000; (B) reacting a carboxylic acid functional group with one or more of oligoamines or alcoholamines having 2 to 6 nitrogen atoms, each containing a primary or secondary nitrogen atom or a hydroxyl group and a quaternizable tertiary nitrogen atom Partial or complete amidation or imidization or esterification of the carboxylic acid functional group; (C) a quaternized copolymer obtainable by the step of partially or completely quaternizing a tertiary nitrogen atom with a quaternizing agent. The quaternized copolymers thus prepared are suitable as fuel additives in direct injection diesel engines. |
