The present invention provides a method of making boron nitride nanotubes and nanotube films, the method comprising heating a liquid composition comprising boron particles and a metal compound, wherein heating comprises nitrogen to grow boron nitride nanotubes. Occurring at a temperature of 800-1300 ° C. in the containing gas atmosphere, the boron particles have an average particle size of less than 100 nm and the metal compound is selected to promote growth of the boron nitride nanotubes during heating. |
