abstract | The present invention relates to a method of dissociating an organoborane-amine complex in a coating composition. The method of the present invention comprises the step of introducing an organoborane-amine complex, a radically polymerizable compound, and optionally an amine onto a substrate to form a coating composition. The method also includes introducing carbon dioxide into the coating composition such that the molar ratio of carbon dioxide to free amine groups present in the coating composition is at least 1: 1. More specifically, the carbamic acid zwitterion is formed in - situ by reaction of carbon dioxide and free amine groups. Formation of carbamic acid zwitterions leads to dissociation and radical formation of the organoborane-amine complex. Radicals are then used to polymerize radically polymerizable compounds. |
