Chemical ionization or quantum transition reaction mass spectrometry using quadrupole or time-of-flight mass spectrometry |
abstract |
Systems and methods for generating reagent ions and product ions for use in mass spectrometry systems are described. Applications for systems and methods for detecting volatile organic compounds at trace concentrations are also disclosed. Microwave or high frequency RF energy sources ionize particles of gaseous reagents to form reagent ions. Reagent ions enter the same chamber as the drift chamber to interact with the fluid sample. The electric field controls reagent ions and facilitates interaction with the fluid sample to form product ions. The reagent ions and product ions are then output from the chamber under the influence of the electric field for detection by the mass spectrometer module. The mass spectrometry system includes various control modules for setting values of system parameters and analysis modules for detecting mass and peak intensity values of ionic species and mass defects in the system during mass analysis. |
