abstract |
A catalyst article comprising a substantially unique palladium noble metal component in a first catalyst layer and a rhodium component in a second catalyst layer and related methods of manufacture and use are disclosed. Also included is a first layer formed on the carrier substrate, a second layer formed on the first layer, and a palladium-free third layer, wherein the first layer comprises a refractory metal oxide and provides a substantially uniform surface. Wherein the second layer comprises i) an oxygen storage component that is about 50 to 90 weight percent of the second layer and ii) an amount of palladium component in an amount of about 2 to 5 weight percent of the second layer, wherein the palladium component is substantially And the only platinum group metal component, wherein the third layer comprises a rhodium component supported on a heat stable oxygen storage component which is about 80 to 99 weight percent of the second layer. This catalyst article exhibits one or more improved properties. |
