| abstract | Configurable compression and decompression of waveform data in a multicore processing environment improves data transfer efficiency between cores and saves resources on data storage media. In waveform data processing systems, input, intermediate, and output waveform data is often exchanged between cores and between off-chip memory. In each core, one single configurable compressor and one single configurable decompressor can be set to compress and decompress integer or floating point waveform data. In a memory controller, the configurable compressor compresses integer or floating point waveform data for transmission to off-chip memory, and the configurable decompressor decompresses compressed packets received from off-chip memory. Compression reduces the memory or storage medium needed to store waveform data in semiconductor or magnetic memory. Compression reduces both the latency and the bandwidth needed to exchange waveform data. This Summary does not limit the scope of the invention as defined by the claims. |
