abstract |
As the output assembly is sized for placement in the middle and inner ear, bone removal can be reduced. The output assembly may include at least one photodetector, demultiplexer, and electrode array to pass through the intimal incision. The input converter assembly is configured to transmit the multiplexed optical signal to the output assembly. The input assembly can be configured to transmit multiplexed optical signals through the tympanic membrane to reduce tissue removal, for example, to place the device without bone removal. The multiplexed optical signal may include a pulse width modulated signal to reduce the effects of nonlinearity of the optical signal and provide high quality sound to the user. |
