abstract |
Methods of making diaryl carbonates are disclosed wherein such methods can be provided for making diaryl carbonates from greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. The disclosed method advantageously incorporates diethyl carbonate and diaryl carbonate preparation without the need for solvent-based extractive distillation generally required when preparing diaryl carbonate from dimethyl carbonate. Thereby providing integration of separation equipment and raw material use and reducing the performance and capital requirements for this method. In some embodiments, the methods disclosed herein may be performed in an essentially closed-loop for, for example, ethanol use. |
