Magnesium halide adducts represented by the following formula (I) are disclosed: MgX 2 .mROH.nE.pH 2 O (I), wherein X is chlorine, bromine, C 1 -C 12 alkoxy, C 3 -C 10 Cycloalkoxy or C 6 -C 10 aryloxy, provided that at least one X is chlorine or bromine; R is C 1 -C 12 alkyl, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl or C 6 -C 10 aryl; E is O-alkoxybenzoate compound represented by the following formula (II): Wherein R 1 and R 2 groups are independently C 1 -C 12 straight or branched alkyl, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl, C 6 -C 10 aryl, C 7 -C 10 alkaryl or C 7 -C 10 aralkyl and the R 1 and R 2 groups are the same as or different from the R groups; m ranges from 1.0 to 5.0; n ranges from 0.001 to 0.5; p ranges from 0 to 0.8). Also disclosed are catalyst components useful for olefin polymerization, including reaction products of (1) magnesium halide adducts, (2) titanium compounds, and optionally (3) electron donor compounds. |
