abstract The present invention relates to a bone density marker and a method for predicting the risk of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fracture using the same. According to the present invention, -36201A> G (rs2000708), -35302C> T (rs4940110) or -34952A> G (rs4940109) in the monobasic polymorphism of the SMAD2 gene, or ht1 or ht2 in haplotypes are closely related to bone density, an index of osteoporosis. It is relevant and can be used as a marker to predict the genetic predisposition of osteoporosis in advance.
