The present invention is directed to administering 4-methylpyrazole (4-MP) or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof to a subject of a group of genes that express specific polymorphisms of the alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase genes. It is about a method. The present invention also prevents or ameliorates ethanol intolerance, or alleviates symptoms associated with acetaldehyde accumulation associated with ethanol intake, comprising administering 4-MP or a physiologically acceptable salt thereof to a subject of the particular trait. Or ameliorate or reduce the risk of a disease or disorder caused by ingestion of ethanol. |
