abstract The present invention relates to a method for detecting S. pneumoniae using real-time polymerase chain reaction and a real-time polymerase chain reaction kit used therein. According to the present invention, using primers and probes targeting the nucleotide sequence in the cpsA gene specific for S. pneumoniae , S. pseudopneumoniae , Streptococcus very similar to pneumococcus and difficult to detect by conventional methods Pneumococci can be quantified and detected very precisely from the group of Streptococcus streptococcus, S. mitis and S. oralis viridans.
