abstract |
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide a vertical alignment liquid crystal display device having excellent front contrast, color shift and viewing angle characteristics by suppressing coloration generated in black display due to light leakage. In the vertical alignment liquid crystal display device of the present invention, the first optical film disposed between the vertical alignment liquid crystal cell and the polarizer, and the second optical film disposed between the polarizer and the liquid crystal cell disposed on the back side thereof are optically biaxial. The first optical film has a smaller phase difference Ro in the in-plane direction and a larger phase difference Rth in the thickness direction than the second optical film, and the second optical film has a phase difference in the in-plane direction compared with the first optical film. It is characterized in that Ro is large, the phase difference Rth in the thickness direction is small, and the wavelength dispersion of the first optical film is different from the wavelength dispersion of the second optical film. |
