titleOfInvention Railway vehicle chassis and its parts
abstract The railway vehicle chassis has a chassis bolster and a pair of side frames, which are mounted transverse to the side frame. The mounting interface between the ends of the axle and the side frame pedestal allows for side rocking action of the side frame in the manner of a swing motion undercarriage. Lateral rocking action is coarser with the longitudinal self steering ability. Self steering capability can be obtained by using longitudinally oriented rockers to allow resistance to deflection that is scaffolded over the weight supported over the interface. The chassis has an auxiliary centering element mounted to the pedestal seat and the element is made of a resilient elastomeric material. The truck also has a friction damper that interferes with the stick-slip. Friction dampers are provided with brake linings, or similar parts, on the side or inclined surfaces or on both sides that engage the side frame columns. Friction dampers operate to produce a uniform upward and downward friction force throughout. Friction dampers may be mounted in four corners at each end of the chassis bolster. Spring groups can include subgroups of springs of different heights.
