titleOfInvention Filter for selective removal of large particles from particle slurry
abstract A method is provided for removing the high particle size end of the particle size distribution of the slurry while leaving the smaller desired particles in the slurry. The method comprises a filter media formed with a fabric of at least one sheet having a first side and a second side, the fabric having at least one layer comprising polymer fibers having a median number average fiber diameter of less than 1000 nm. Providing a step. The slurry stream is then fed to one side of the cloth. The stream has a plurality of particle sizes comprising a first set of particles having a maximum dimension of less than 0.1 micrometers and a second set of particles having a maximum individual dimension of greater than 0.45 micrometers. The slurry stream passes through the filter medium to the second side of the filter medium such that at least a portion of the larger particles in the slurry are retained on the first side of the medium. The filtration efficiency of the cloth for the first set of particles is less than 0.05 and the filtration efficiency for the second set of particles is greater than 0.8.
