By providing the metal powder to the machined or pre-machined tissue-contacting surface of the porous foam structure, a system and method for providing a tissue-contacting surface layer with increased roughness can be obtained. The metal powder may have a size and characteristic that prevents the closure of open pores in the porous metal foam structure while allowing the porous structure to have increased roughness at the tissue-contacting machined surface. |
