titleOfInvention Systems, apparatus, and methods for measuring whole blood hematocrit based on initial charge rate
abstract The present invention relates to a method for determining hematocrit in a blood sample, and to an apparatus and system used in this regard. Hematocrit values can be determined alone and can also be used to further determine the concentration of analyte in the sample. In one exemplary embodiment of a method for determining hematocrit values in a blood sample, a volume of blood is provided to a sample analysis device having a working and counter electrode. A potential is applied between the electrodes and the initial charge rate of the sample into the device is calculated. The hematocrit of the blood as well as the concentration of the analyte can then be determined taking into account the initial filling rate. Systems and apparatus are also provided that take advantage of using the initial charge rate to determine hematocrit levels and analyte concentration determinations.
