The present invention relates to a method for extracting caries lesion area from a healthy area of a tooth. In one embodiment, the method uses a morphological bottom-hat based method of generating a digital image of a tooth, identifying a tooth region, using a marker controlled watershed algorithm, or in conjunction with a multi-resolution surface reconstruction method. Thereby extracting the suspicious lesion region and removing the false positive response. In another embodiment, the method further comprises obtaining a fluorescence image of the tooth, acquiring a reflection image of the tooth and combining image data for the fluorescence image and the reflection image. And identifying a tooth region, extracting a suspected lesion region, and eliminating false positive reactions. |
