titleOfInvention Marine object disposal method
abstract A method is provided for removing alien species and undesirable organisms from ballast water of a marine vessel. Ballast water 204 is injected into container 202. Organic material is added to the ballast water. Heterotrophic organisms 219 in ballast water multiply and consume organic material 218. Heterotrophic organisms substantially reduce the oxygen level in the ballast water as compared to the oxygen level of the untreated ballast water. Exotic species and undesirable organisms die due to oxygen deficiency.
