abstract |
The present invention relates to topical compositions containing dispersions of composite particles. These composite particles each contain one or more core particles encapsulated or entrapped in a polymeric shell. At least some of the core particles consist of a substance that can cause the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Each composite particle further comprises (1) a first antioxidant encapsulated with or entrapped with the core particles in the polymeric shell to inhibit or eliminate ROS generated in the vicinity of the core particles, and (2) to the skin. It contains a second antioxidant coated over the polymeric shell to prevent or reduce oxidative damage to (eg lipid peroxidation). Thus, the particle dispersions of the present invention can be easily formulated into topical sunscreen compositions by organic sunscreens that are sensitive to oxidative degradation or deterioration, providing improved protection against skin damage caused by exposure to ultraviolet light. . |
