titleOfInvention | Methods and media for detecting the presence or absence of Staphylococcus aureus in test samples |
abstract | The presence / absence test for Staphylococcus aureus involves placing a first generation test sample in a solution that coagulates in the presence of Staphylococcus aureus. The solution contains a component that selectively grows Staphylococcus aureus, and also contains a clotting factor that reacts with Staphylococcus aureus if it is present in the sample to coagulate the solution. Examples of sample samples that can be tested include nasal swabs and lesion swabs, among others. The test may also be altered to detect the presence or absence of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). |
