abstract The present invention generally relates to iodixanol (1,3-bis (acetamido) -N, N'-bis [3,5-bis (2,3-dihydroxypropylamino) which is a nonionic X-ray contrast agent Carbonyl) -2,4,6-triiodophenyl] -2-hydroxypropane). Further, the present invention provides 5-acetamido-N, N'-bis (2,3-dihydroxypropyl) -2,4,6-triiodoisophthalamide for crystallizing iodixanol ( Dimerization reaction to iodixanol from “Compound A”). In particular, the present invention relates to an industrial procedure for simultaneously reducing the salt content and the alcoholic dimerization solvent using a nanofiltration system before crystallizing iodixanol.
