abstract The present invention provides a method of selecting a substance having a heat-producing action, which contains a compound having a function of activating PPAR ?, and a drug, and a drug having an antidiabetic, anti-obesity and visceral fat reduction function. The present invention promotes nonshivering thermogenesis (nST) containing a compound having a function of activating the peroxysome proliferator activating receptor PPARδ, and uncoupled respiration of mitochondria in cells such as adipose tissue or Drugs having the effect of specifically enhancing proton leakage in the mitochondrial lining to increase the expression level of UCP1, antidiabetic agents containing the compound, anti-obesity agents, and visceral fat reduction agents. Moreover, this invention is the selection method of this compound by the measurement of PPARdelta activation action.
