Continuous process for preparing organic carbonates or organic carbamates and solid catalysts therefor |
abstract |
Disclosed are alcohol degradation processes comprising transesterification and / or disproportionation of reactants. The alcohol cracking method may include supplying a reactant and a trace amount of a soluble organometallic compound to a reactor including a solid alcohol cracking catalyst, wherein the soluble organometallic compound and the solid alcohol cracking catalyst are each independently a group II to group VI element. Which may be the same element in various embodiments. By way of example, diphenyl carbonate can be prepared continuously by transesterification on a solid catalyst followed by disproportionation, where traces of soluble organometallic compounds are fed to the transesterification reactor. Recycling spent solid alcoholic catalysts, such as those useful for transesterification and / or disproportionation, comprising removing polymeric material deposited on the catalyst and re-depositing catalytically active metal on the solid catalyst. Methods of activating are also disclosed. |
