The present invention provides a process for preparing a high functional polyetherol by reacting one or more, trifunctional or more highly functional alcohols and, where appropriate, further difunctional and / or monofunctional alcohols, and / or modification reagents with an acidic catalyst. Wherein the trifunctional or higher functional alcohols are not glycerol. The present invention also relates to high functional polyetherols obtainable by such methods, and adhesion promoters, thixotropic agents, rheology modifiers of polymers, phase transfer agents, biologically active compounds such as active medical ingredients, biocides, herbicides or fungicides.
