The present invention provides novel ascorbic acid derivatives as provitamin C having improved stability in the body and extended life in the body as compared to commonly known 2-O- (α-D-glucopyranosyl) ascorbic acid. Compositions containing the novel 2-O- (β-D-glucopyranosyl) ascorbic acid compounds are extracted from plants such as Ningxia Lycium barbarum L. and / or Lycium Chinense Mill. The composition containing 2-O- (β-D-glucopyranosyl) ascorbic acid can be synthesized by enzyme using β-D-glucosyltransferase. Pure 2-O- (β-D-glucopyranosyl) ascorbic acid can be produced from such compositions. Alternatively, 2-O- (β-D-glucopyranosyl) ascorbic acid can be prepared by chemical synthesis. 2-O- (β-D-glucopyranosyl) ascorbic acid, when ingested into the body compared to the corresponding α-D-glucopyranosyl derivative, promotes high stability and extended lifespan of vitamin C, and thus in cosmetics and foods. Very suitable for use as Provitamin C. |
