titleOfInvention | Control of Laser Inertia-Constrained Fusion-Dividing Power Plants |
abstract | A laser inertial-constrained fusion-fragment energy generation plant is described. Fusion-disruption hybrid systems use inertial-bound fusion to generate neutrons from fusion reactions of deuterium and tritium. Fusion neutrons drive a sub-critical blanket of fissile or nuclear material convertible fuel. Coolant circulated through the fuel extracts heat from the fuel, which is used to generate electricity. Inertial-constrained fusion reactions can be carried out using central hot spot or fast ignition fusion and direct or indirect drive. Fusion neutrons result in ultra-deep burn-up of fuel in the splitting blanket, thereby enabling the consumption of nuclear waste. Fuels include depleted uranium, natural uranium, enriched uranium, spent nuclear fuel, thorium and inorganic plutonium. LIFE engines can meet the world's electrical demand in a safe and sustainable manner, with significant reductions in significantly undesirable stockpiles of depleted uranium, spent nuclear fuel and excess inorganic materials. |
