Protective Skin Care Tetrapeptide |
abstract |
The disclosed invention provides tetrapeptides having the amino acid sequence proline-glutamine-glutamate-X (P-Q-E-X), wherein X can be either lysine (K) or isoleucine (I). These tetrapeptides inhibit ultraviolet light (UV) -induced expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) by skin epithelial cells and fibroblasts. Further, tetrapeptides can be derived from matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) by dermal fibroblasts induced by direct exposure to UV light or by treatment with a medium under conditions with UV-treated keratinocytes. Suppresses upregulation. The small size and bio-activity of tetrapeptides provide those suitable for use as active ingredients in therapeutics and skin care products associated with inflammatory skin disorders. |
