titleOfInvention | Method for preparing caustic composite silica gel and gel prepared by the method |
abstract | According to the present invention, novel silica gel materials and novel methods of making such materials are provided. The method itself involves mixing with the reactants in a single vessel process so that the time required for aging is reduced without compromising the ability to target pore size production. In this manner, the pH of the reaction leads to pore size development, thereby enabling a more effective process that reduces time in view of, but not entirely, the drying / heating step. In addition, in one embodiment, the gel material obtained exhibits a predetermined pore size to a minimum while at the same time exhibiting a degree of softening which has not been possible until now. As such, this novel method is not only more effective in silica gel production, but also the resulting material is completely new. The gel material produced therefrom can be used in a variety of different end uses such as milk filtration, soft skin cleaners, dental abrasives and the like. Thus, the novel gel materials themselves, in particular caustic and composite gels, as well as their preparation and use are included within the invention. |
