abstract |
The present invention provides an enteric coating of 6-mercaptopurine in which the release of 6-mercaptopurine is delayed such that the enteric coated formulation of 6-mercaptopurine does not substantially occur after release of the 6-mercaptopurine. To provide a formulated formulation. Optionally, the formulation also includes a delayed coating in addition to an enteric coating that provides an additional delay such that substantially no release of 6-mercaptopurine occurs after a predetermined time after passing through the stomach. This predetermined time is preferably 1 hour or more after passing through the stomach. After the delay imparted by the enteric coating and any delayed coating, the formulation shows better bioavailability and faster dissolution than the conventional formulation. |
