We have successfully isolated GWT1 (PfGWT1), one of the enzymes involved in GPI biosynthesis, from the malaria parasite P. falciparum. In addition, the inventors found that degenerate mutant DNA with a lower AT content than DNA encoding the PfGWT1 protein can complement the phenotype of GWT1 deleted yeast. Based on this finding, the present invention provides the use of said protein in screening methods for malaria parasite GWT1 protein and antimalarial drugs. The present invention also provides a degenerate mutant DNA having a lower AT content than the original DNA and encoding a protein involved in GPI biosynthesis. The present invention also provides a screening method for an antimalarial drug using the degenerate mutant DNA. |
