Raccoon poxvirus expressing the gene of a feline antigen |
abstract |
The present invention is directed to a novel recombinant raccoon poxvirus vector comprising two or more exogenous nucleic acid molecules, wherein each nucleic acid molecule encodes at least one cat protein and at least two of said nucleic acid molecules are hemagglutinin (ha). The site is inserted at the site or thymidine kinase (tk) site, or at least one of the nucleic acid molecules is inserted at the site of hemagglutinin and thymidine kinase, respectively. Described herein are monovalent and multivalent recombinant cat vaccines comprising an immunologically effective amount of a recombinant raccoon poxvirus vector and, optionally, a suitable carrier or diluent. The vaccines of the invention optionally comprise additional feline antigens to provide cats with a broad spectrum of protection against various feline pathogens. The present invention also relates to a method of inducing a protective immune response against cat pathogens in cats by administering a recombinant vaccine. |
