“Sleep milk” includes peptides that have a hypnotic effect on humans or other mammals using milk proteins from cows homozygous for the A1 allele for beta-casein. Exposing milk or protein to a process that enhances glycosylation is absorbed through the digestive tract after digestion and hydrolyzed in the digestive tract, resulting in substantially increased half-life of peptides such as beta-casomorphin-7. Sleep milk is made by glycosylating A1 milk in a modified UHT process in the presence of carbohydrates such as ascorbic acid. The hypnotic effect of the resulting material is predicted by the measurement of glycation products. |
