| abstract |
The present invention provides an improved process for the preparation of modafinil in which modafinil can be separated in high purity by a single crystallization. This method produces modafinil without the sulfone product and other byproducts of peroxide. The present invention also provides novel crystalline modafinil type II to VI and methods for their preparation. Each of these novel forms is distinguished by a unique powder X-ray diffraction pattern. The present invention also provides a pharmaceutical composition containing the novel modafinil type II to type IV and type VI. |
