abstract | Sprayed latex foam is provided that fills the wall cavities to reinforce the building's sealing and insulation properties. Sprayed latex foams include latex systems and vapor coagulation components. In at least one exemplary embodiment, carbon dioxide is included as the vapor phase coagulant. One latex suitable for use in spray foam is polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC), which has flame retardancy and environmental durability. However, the preferred latex is styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). The latex system may also include thixotropic agents such as Laponite ® RD synthetic clay. Spray latex foam does not have a polyurethane. Also provided is a method of making a sprayable latex foam comprising supplying a latex system and adding a vapor phase coagulation component to the latex system. |
