Filter media comprising an amine sensitive impregnant and a filter effective to remove cyano-containing contaminants with improved compatibility with amine sensitive substrates |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a filter medium containing an impregnating agent obtained by prereacting an amine functional material with a transition metal to form an amine-metal coordination complex. Complexed amines are much more compatible with amine sensitive co-impregnants or amine sensitive substrates. Also, even if the amine is complexed, the impregnant retains high activity against the removal of cyano-containing vapors and other contaminants in which the amine has filtration efficacy. Thus, the filter medium may advantageously contain cyano-containing vapors in the presence of metal based catalysts (e.g., catalysts comprising platinum, gold or other active transition metals) without the undesirable effect of excessively inhibiting or poisoning the metallic catalyst. It can be used to remove other amine-target contaminants from air and other harmful gases. Amine-containing coordination complexes are also more compatible with substrates having electret properties compared to the same amine material that is otherwise not complexed. |
