titleOfInvention | Process for preparing mixed phase multistage alkylaromatic compound |
abstract | The present invention discloses a process for preparing alkylaromatic compounds in a multistage reaction system comprising at least first and second series-linked alkylation reaction zones each containing an alkylation catalyst. A first feed comprising an alkylable aromatic compound and a second feed comprising an alkene and one or more alkanes are introduced into the first alkylation reaction zone. The first alkylation reaction zone is operated under temperature and pressure conditions effective to effect alkylation of an aromatic compound with an alkene in the presence of an alkylation catalyst in which the aromatic compound is partly in the gas phase and partly in the liquid phase. Effluents containing alkylaromatic compounds, unreacted alkylatable aromatic compounds, any unreacted alkenes and alkanes are recovered from the first alkylation reaction zone and then fed to the second alkylation reaction zone without removing alkanes. . The operating conditions in each of the first and second alkylation reaction zones are those wherein the ratio of the volume of liquid to the volume of gas in each zone is from about 0.1 to about 10. |
