abstract Particles of the electrode active material are prepared by blending or mixing a mixture of activated carbon, optional conductive carbon, and a binder. In selected embodiments, the activated carbon particles have about 70 to 98% by weight of microporous activated carbon particles and about 2 to 30% by weight of mesoporous activated carbon particles. Optionally, In one embodiment, the binder is inert. The electrode material may be attached to a current collector to provide an electrode for use in various energy storage devices, including dual layer capacitors.
